They say being a mom is a walk in the park, the Jurassic Park, but I think that is for all parenthood. There is plenty of running, screaming and dinosaurs (aka. children) attacking you. There’s nowhere to hide, eat, read or (seriously) pee in peace and that goes for moms and dads.
Most people don’t give enough credit to fathers, that its only moms who are allowed to be tired after being all day with the kids.
I’m a SAHM, but I never thought I would ever be one. Women in my family all worked and I was focused on working after college in order to raise Eli. Due to G’s work, we moved cross country. I quit my job and did weekly job searches for months to no avail. I ended up getting pregnant with Emi and we decided that working could wait.
I can enjoy baking and crafting with my daughters but my husband does not have the same privilege. Just because I stay home with the kids, doesn’t mean it is easier on my husband and that goes for working moms out there too. Think about the moments they miss and stress they carry to maintain food on the table. It really depends on what lens you use to look at the situation. Every family member is important and we are all tired at the end of the day, be it because we run around with the kids, we spent all day playing, or working.
While I do like trading off jobs when my husband gets off work, I appreciate all he does for our family and the time he takes after work to give the girls love and attention. Their time together gives me time to clean things I forgot, drink a tea in peace and write posts like this. At the end of the day, we are equally burnt out and spent time with our daughters.
Just like we should not compare our children with other kids (or even their siblings), we cannot compare ourselves to other parents. Parenting is hard. Nobody is perfect. Try your best and enjoy your time with your little ones; in the blink of an eye, they will no longer be little.
