The end of social media

It’s been almost a year since our exit from social media and life has not been the same. I really didn’t process how much social media played into our lives until it was gone. There were many reasons why I decided to delete our accounts but, the main one was the loss of rights via Meta. From 2020 to 2024, Instagram was our main social channel and in those years, we had viral videos, years of content, friends and connection. Being that it was our main outlet, when Meta decided to change their terms with no way to way to opt-out, I decided it was time to move on.

With the new terms, users generally granted Meta a broad license to use, share, copy, and sell any content they post. They could also use content to train their AI. Considering most of my videos featured my kids and original content, I didn’t think it was a fair trade.

I did try other channels like Blue Sky and Youtube but didn’t give it a chance. In a way, it was a big change like switching phone makers. Eventually, I took the break from the internet. For so long, I felt stuck, no knowing how to proceed.

Connecting with others and making content gives me creative purpose. Coming back online is a way to fuel the fun. The way we post has changed but we are still sharing in hope it reaches the one person who needs it.

My purpose for starting this journey was always to bring joy, and simply share smiles. If you read this far, thank you for being here. Hopefully we will bring you more reasons to smile – soon.
