Create an inspiring workspace

Motivation can greatly be affected by our surroundings and sometimes making a space feel comfortble , can lead to more productivity and inspiration. Inspiration comes to us in different ways and forms, sometimes from deep within ourselves. Reading a great quote, seeing new art, exploring new areas and such can sometimes lead to our own great ideas.

This is why I make my work area, more me. I usually change my setup a few times a year, while I know others keep it the same for a year and track goals via mood boards.

Creating a mood board for the year may include quotes that motivate you and people who make you happy and pictures of places you want to visit. It involves a lot of cutting magazines and glueing on foam board.

After thinking about this for a while, I wanted to reuse as many things I had home and give this idea my own twist.

Thinking about the colors you love and the goals you wish to accomplish. It is okay to change this along the way but looking at what inspires you, your workspace will keep you focused on your goals. You could change the goals, art and quotes seasonally but these are the steps to follow:

  1. Grab some cardboard from your recycling bin and cut to whatever size you want.
  2. Paint the cardboard in fun colors.
  3. Once the cardboard is dry, grab some clips from your laundry room, sewing room or spare binder clips and glue these to the top of your cardboard. If you prefer traditional clipboards, like mine, grab some clips from the craft store. I used E6000 to glue them.
  4. Let these rest a few hours in order for the glue to dry.
  5. While the glue dries, cut paper of choice slightly smaller than your cardboard. You may use printer paper, newspaper or even old receipts.
  6. Write encouraging and positive messages on your paper.
  7. Once the cardboard clips are dry, use some tape to place them on your workspace or thread them thru a string to hang.
  8. Clip your messages in your cute cardboard clipboards and enjoy!

I prefer this over the traditional mood board because it is smaller and manageable. The big foam mood board felt ovewhelming and when things didn’t manifest, it became a frustrating point to look at.

Regardless of what method you end up following, have fun. You are not looking for perfection but a way to express yourself and make your space right for you. We are all different and what works for me, my not work for you.

Another practically easy change for your workspace is lighting! We can get into that later but for now, make sure to write some inspiring quotes and surround yourself with positivity.
